As a high school ELA teacher, do you utilize your book in your curriculum? I’m a 7th grade teacher and am just wondering if your book is acceptable considering the language used within it. I’m halfway through the book so far and am loving it! I’m questioning the use of it seeing as it may be a book teachers would have to justify to parents.

I’m glad you’re enjoying the story, but no, I do not think it would be suitable for 7th grade. I teach 9-12 and do not teach it, but allow Tap Out for outside reading. I think it would take a very open-minded school board to adopt Tap Out into the curriculum. I’m sure they exist, but are a rarity.
With that said, I have witnessed the successful use of Tap Out with at-risk teens. If your school has such a group, it would be worth mentioning the title to the director. I would be more than willing to communicate with him or her.
Thanks for reaching out, and good luck in that classroom. It’s important work, and more so, every day.
